The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to top brass of the Capital?s power distributors ? Reliance Infrastructure-promoted BSES Rajdhani Power and BSES Yamuna Power ? on a contempt plea filed by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) seeking recovery of over Rs 900-crore dues for drawing electricity since 2011.

A bench headed by Justice Ranjana Desai sought response from the nine top officials, including BSES Yamuna Power (BYPL) and BSES Rajdhani Power (BRPL) chairman and president Lalit Jalan, BYPL CEO Arbind Gujral and BRPL CEO Gopal Saxena, as to whether the matter can be resolved amicably.

The apex court had ordered another state-run power producer, NTPC, not to disconnect power supplies to distribution companies in Delhi until March 26, averting a blackout. DVC, which started supplying power to Delhi in 2010, said the two companies had willfully disobeyed the apex court’s October 2011 order that asked them to continue paying current charges as per their contracts.
