Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced yet another gas discovery in the Krishna-Godavari basin off the east coast. The discovery has been named as ?Dhirubhai ? 37? and has been notified to petroleum ministry as also the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH).
RIL said it was evaluating the commerciality of this discovery. The discovery has been made in the KG-III-5 well of the KG-OSN-2001/1 block in the Krishna offshore basin.
The company holds 100% participating interest in this block. The well, is the second gas discovery in the Miocene clastics reservoir in the Krishna basin.
This shallow water block, with an area of 1,100 sq km, was awarded to RIL under biding round of NELP-III.
Announcing the discovery an RIL release said, ?This well, KGIII5-P1, was targeted with the objective of consolidating the Miocene play fairways in the block as well as in Krishna basin. The well was drilled at water depth of 151 metres and was drilled to the target depth of 3,500 metres.
The well encountered clastic reservoir with gross hydrocarbon column of around 32 metres in Miocene section and 4 metres in Pliocene section. The two pay zones was established through wire-line based technology called reservoir characterisation imager (RCI).?
RIL has already discovered huge quantum of gas in the KG-DWN-98/3 block and is expected to begin production from the block from June 2008.
