After launching Reliance fresh stores in India, Reliance Industries Ltd’s retail arm?Reliance retail is now planning to introduce a new retail format?mini hyper mart.
And the first store is slated to open in Amritsar, Punjab under by 15th of this month. The store will be spread over about 15,000 sq ft.
“The mini-hyper mart stores will be launched under a new brand name. They will house a wide range of products ranging from fresh produce, food and grocery, home care products, apparel and accessories to non-food FMCG products, consumer durables and IT, automotive accessories, lifestyle products, footwear and much more,” an official from Reliance Retail told FE.
Adding he said “We have also tied up with a national pickle brand to sell pickles. There will be a good mix of our own brands as well as the others”.
At present Reliance Retail’s largest hypermarket (1.65 lakh sq ft), under the brand name of Reliance Mart is operational in Ahmedabad. The hypermarket was the third retail format to be launched by Reliance Retail after supermarket format Reliance Fresh and consumer electronics concept mega store Reliance Digital.
Reliance Retail plans to open up another mini hyper mart in Ludhiana. “Our next stop will be Ludhiana and thereafter we will target all category A & category B towns of the state. We are negotiating for acquiring land in Chandigarh as well. The store in Ludhaina will be spread over about 20,000 sq ft and is likely to be functional early next year.”
The company plans to open around 50 retail stores in the state within a year, besides 26 others across pan India . The company has already opened about 16 ‘Reliance Fresh’ outlets in Punjab concentrated in cities like Ludhiana , Jalandhar, Amritsar etc.
Plans are afoot to open 15,000 outlets pan India, under various formats and brand names, entailing an investment of around Rs 25,000 crore over the next 3-5 years.
