Chambal Infrastructure Ventures Ltd (CIVL), a fully-owned subsidiary of Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd (CFCL), a KK Birla group company, is likely to sign an MoU with the Orissa government soon for setting up a 2,000-mw thermal power project with an investment of Rs 8,000 crore in the state. The project will come up at Saria in Dhenkanal district.
The project proposal is now being considered by the single-window clearance committee of the Orissa government. The MoU would be signed once it gets the approval of the clearance authority headed by chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
HS Bawa, chairman of CFCL, the flagship company of the KK Birla group, Wednesday met the Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik and gave the presentation on the project. The meeting was attended by energy minister SN Patro.
?It was a more of a courtesy call?, Bawa, however, told FE.
Patro said that CIVL has applied to the state-owned Industrial Investment Promotion Corporation of Orissa Limited (IPICOL) for 2,000 acres for the project. It has also applied to the coal ministry for allotment of a coal block. Patro said that the CIVL chairman also proposed that the project could be taken up jointly with the state government as the Orissa
Hydro Power Corp (OHPC) and Orissa Mining Corp (OMC) has coal blocks.
The CIVL chairman was accompanied by Paradeep Phosphate Ltd (PPL) MD, SS Nandrudikar. Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals has acquired the central sector di-ammonia fertiliser major PPL.
