The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has released 13,699 new domestic connections to the people living below poverty line (BPL) so far under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna (RGGVY).
The Nigam has also provided C F Ls free of cost to the new BPL consumers. It was planned to release 1,10,159 connections under the scheme.
The Nigam has started execution of developmental works in its command area under the schemes sanctioned by the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) to implement the RGGVY for which a sum of Rs 104.34 crore was sanctioned to strengthen the distribution system in district Panchkula, Ambala, Yamuna Nagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Jind. The electricity consumers of 3,567 villages would be benefited with this scheme by way of improved distribution system, better voltage and least interruptions, a spokesman said on Wednesday.
It has been planned to install 628 distribution transformers of 63 KVA and 3,023 distribution transformers of 25 KVA capacity exclusively for release of BPL connections in the rural areas, which will help in reducing load on the other existing transformers.
Simultaneously, the work was in progress on erecting 2,719 km new lines of 11 KV level, 398 km low tension lines and the system has been strengthened by replacing 877 Km existing lines with low tension aerial bunched cable. It will help to avoid accidents as well as pilferage of power, the spokesman said. The meters would also be installed on 3744 distribution transformers. It will help in energy audit.
More than 40% of the works have been completed by the Nigam. It has been targeted to complete the works during the current fiscal, the spokesman further added.
