Harita Seating Systems, part of the TVS group and manufacturer of seating systems for commercial and passenger vehicles, is working on new platforms to strengthen its position in the CV, bus and tractor segments and also spruce up its growth prospects on the export front, according to company sources.
The company is planning to set up a new assembly plant at Jamshedpur to secure higher market share in the eastern part of the country while increasing its top line further. The plant is expected to be commissioned in the next few months, the source added. The new platforms will help the company launch new variants, covering broad range of market segments. Some of the new initiatives include developing robotic welding for critical parts for better quality and higher value addition in-house; introducing automatic fabric-cutting technology; developing products focused on urban transportation and involved in developing products with export applications focused on key customers such as John Deere and Gramag.
In the last few months, the company has developed key products including bus passenger seats for metro buses and new entrants like Mercedes Benz and Swaraj Mazda; driver and assistant seats for Asia Motor Works, tractor seats for export applications to customers like Mahindra & Mahindra, a range of `H-point? driver seats for commercial vehicles and off-road applications, new driver seats focused on lawn mower applications of John Deere of the US. These new products and the proposed new platforms are expected to generate an additional revenue of Rs 120 crore over the next two to three years, the source pointed out.
Given the modest revival in the global economy and a projected 8% growth in Indian GDP, the company believes that it has been well-placed to cash in on the huge demand going forward.
