The Ranbaxy group promoted Fortis Healthcare Ltd is tipped to be the partner in the Rs 1000-crore Burdwan Health City, the first health city in the state, being developed by Bengal-FAITH Health Care Pvt Ltd.
Bengal-Faith, a special purpose vehicle, was formed four months ago by Consulting Engineering Services (CES) Pvt Ltd, West Bengal Industrial Development Corp and FAITH Healthcare Pvt Ltd, which is a CES group company.
SS Chakraborty, chairman of the SPV, said, “we are looking for a partner to provide the best healthcare facility.” So far, some of the companies that have shown interest are Fortis, Venus Asia of Dr Naresh Trehan, US-based Methodist International and John Hopkins Medicine.
“I am even ready to accept a partner with majority share in the SPV formed for the clinical and medicare facility. But it has to ensure quality and timely delivery of services,” he said.
Chakraborty declined to disclose the partner’s name. Fortis officials did not reply. But industry sources said Fortis is close to clinching the deal.
The Health City, being planned near Durgapur Expressway, will have a 500-bed anchor hospital along with six super specialty hospitals.
“The Health City will house a Bio-technology Park, pharma-city, surgical equipment manufacturing unit, tele-radiology unit, clinical trial facility and large scale warehouses for life saving medicines,” Chakraborty said.
It will also have a medical college, a nursing college, paramedical school, polyclinic, along with residential area, blood bank and diagnostic center.
“We will make provision for mobile medical unit to serve the rural areas,” Chakraborty said.
Bengal CES Infratech Pvt Ltd, a joint venture company of WBIDC and CES, would control and regulate the standard of the services provided.
