Storage battery maker Exide Industries Ltd has tied up with Atraverda Ltd of UK to jointly develop bi-polar technology.
“If successful, this (bi-polar technology) would make lead acid batteries smaller, lighter and more environment friendly. This joint research will enable Exide to develop bi-polar lead acid batteries for a range of power storage applications,” Exide said in a statement.
According to SK Mittal, director of Exide’s research wing, the development of bi-polar technology will take place at the new research block recently commissioned at Kolkata.
Commenting on the tieup, Atraverda CEO Andrew Dixey said, “The agreement with Exide is a great step for Atraverda. By harnessing Exide’s experience, contacts and industry know-how, we can evaluate the real impact of our Ebonex technology.”
According to Atraverda, its Ebonex technology-based bi-polar batteries use significantly less lead while being recyclable like conventional lead-acid batteries, delivering an environmental-friendly technology.
The UK-based company is in the process of tying up with manufacturers across the world to put in use its patented technology.
