The Board of Approval will take up 31 SEZ proposals, including those by Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant Technology, for clearance at its meeting on Thursday.

IT and ITeS Special Economic Zones dominate the list of proposals to be taken up by the BoA. Most of the new proposals for SEZs in IT and ITeS are from Haryana and Andhra Pradesh.

Interestingly, the SEZ promoters are taking IT and ITeS beyond the hubs of Gurgaon and Hyderabad.

Anant Raj Industries proposes to build a 10-hectare IT zone in Sonepat near Delhi, while Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation intends to set up a 32.57-hectare IT SEZ in Chittoor.

Mittal Infratech plans to set up an IT zone in Panipat, more famous for its textile industries.

Tata Consultancy Services proposes to set up a 30.35 hectare IT zone in Ranga Reddy District of Andhra Pradesh, where Cognizant Technology Solutions also has plans to establish a 16-hectare IT zone.

Pune and Mohali, where IT and ITeS companies have already established their presence, are also on the radar of the new SEZ investors. Established auto player MAN Industries proposes to set up an 118.6 hectare IT SEZ in Indore.

Gitanjali Gems’ proposals for a 102 hectare gems and jewellery zone and a 1,000 hectare multi-product project in Maharashtra are also listed for Thursday’s meeting.

The government has so far given 366 formal approvals and 178 in-principle nods to Special Economic Zones.
