Earthquake in Tibet: A massive quake roiled the region today according to the US Geographical Survey which measured the temblor at 6.2 magnitude on the Richter scale. No reports are yet available of injuries to anyone nor any damage to property. However, this may change as the region is not densely populated and the reports of damage will take time to arrive.
This current earthquake has come within weeks of another one that hit the region on September 22. The US Geological Survey had reported then that a 5.3 magnitude quake had hit the region. Temblor’s epicenter was at a depth of some 25 kilometers.
According to Xinhua the area included Litang County, Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze, in China’s Sichuan Province. This was some 104 kilometers southwest of Rulong. The time of the quake was at 1:23 a.m.
