Bhawani Singh Rajawat, BJP MLA from Ladpura in Rajasthan’s Kota claimed that “Ambani and Adani” had prior knowledge of the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 note in a video, which was released online on Wednesday. Rajawat who speaks in Hindi in the video says that Ambani and Adani among others had already been informed about this before the announcement actually happened. He said that these billionaire businessmen had been given hints and hence had found their way out before the demonetisation drive actually happened.

Rajawat, in a conversation with the IE later in that evening, said that the released video was the off-record bits of the conversation and alleged that the journalists had presented “distorted comments”. He clarified that he did not say any of the things that were mentioned in the conversation. Rajawat also allegedly said the video that the new currency notes were third class. He said that they felt counterfeit.

Rajawat also remained critical of the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and the long queues that followed outside banks and ATMs and said that the government should have printed the new current as per the requirement of the country. He compared the overnight scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes to the announcement of the change in petrol prices and seemed utterly disappointed at it. However, he also denied the conversation in the recorded video and said that a few journalists had come to his house in Kota to get a bite in demonetisation but had unethically recorded and released the conversation.
