The Congress has defended party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Italy to meet his grandmother saying that it is a part of the country’s culture to take care of the well-being of elders. Rahul Gandhi’s foreign travel plans were revealed on Twitter when he said, “Will be traveling to meet my grandmother & family for a few days. Looking forward to spending some time with them!”. Gandhi flew out on Tuesday. Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar said it is the personal life of Congress VP. Hitting back at the BJP, Babbar further said that it is the duty of the PM to give an account of his personal meetings during his foreign visits too, reported news agency PTI. He also lamented that the PM did not tweet to condole the death of farmers in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh during the protest. The party leader said that the PM tweets about the incidents of terror in Manchester and London, but does not do so to express his condolences when farmers died in Mandsaur.
Earlier, All India Congress Committee’s in-charge of communication Randeep S Surjewala also defended Gandhi’s trip, saying that he is visiting his grandmother and one should respect that as it is a duty to take care of elders. He added that as far as Rahul Gandhi’s political role is concerned, one cannot hold anything against him over his responsibility or his post, nor find fault in his personal life. He also said that Gandhi will continue to lead and guide the ongoing farmers agitation. Surjewala further added that along with Gandhi, every Congressman is committed to fight for farmers’ rights.
