The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has challenged notices sent by the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) over a controversial post on the official account of ex-prime minister Imran Khan, reported Dawn News.

On Tuesday, from Lahore, a joint investigation team (JIT) visited Adiala Jail to interrogate ex-foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi regarding the May 9 violence cases.

The notices were issued to PTI leaders Barrister Gohar, Secretary General Omar Ayub, and spokesperson Raoof Hasan. The notices said that an inquiry had been initiated regarding the “misuse” of Imran Khan’s verified X account.

The three PTI leaders were directed to appear in person before the Federal Investigative Agency Sub-Inspector Muhammad Monib Zafar at the FIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centre on Wednesday. The PTI leaders have to get their statements recorded, according to Dawn.

In case of their absence, proceedings [under section] 174 PPC will be initiated against them, the notice said.

The notice of FIA had said that the post was “likely to cause fear or alarm in the public”, Dawn reported.

Meanwhile, the post in question, shared on May 26, included a montage with a quote attributed to the ex-pm urging the nation to “study the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report” and understand “who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” reported Dawn.

However, the PTI has argued that the post aimed to “encourage national dialogue” and bring Pakistan out of the ongoing crisis.
