How did the NYC shooting happen? Police shares sequence of event

The police shared the timeline of how the deadly shooting in Midtown Manhattan happened. The suspected shooter, Shane Devon Tamura, a man from Las Vegas, started driving across the country on July 26. He passed through Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and entered New York City through New Jersey on July 28.

Around 6:28 pm, emergency calls started coming in about a shooting at 345 Park Avenue, a busy area filled with offices and people heading home. Security video showed Tamura getting out of a black BMW with a rifle. He entered the building and quickly opened fire on a police officer. He also shot a woman hiding behind a pillar, then kept firing in the lobby. He shot a security guard (probably Islam) and another man before reaching the elevators. When a woman came out of the elevator, he let her go.

Tamura then went up to the 33rd floor, where he shot and killed one more person before turning the gun on himself.

The New York Police in a post on X wrote that Islam “represented the very best of our department”. The statement further added that he was doing hid duty and protecting the people from danger when “his life was tragically cut short”.
