Pahalgam terror attack: In the aftermath of a brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Global leaders have come forward to express their condolences and to extend their support for India. The shooting has been claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan-based Laskar-e-Taiba. This incident marks the deadliest such attack in the Valley after the Pulwama attack.

The Prime Minister, who was on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, has cut his trip short and has returned to New Delhi. The attack has drawn global support, with several countries uniting to fight against terrorism.

Trump, Putin, Netanyahu reactions on Pahalgam terror attack

US President Donald Trump spoke with PM Modi and described the attack as a ”heinous act,” and has assured India of full support in bringing the perpetrators to justice. ”Our hearts are with you all,” Trump posted on Truth Social, adding that the US stands firmly with India against terrorism.

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday said he had spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to assess the situation following the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Gandhi also reached out to J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Karra to discuss the aftermath of the attack. In a post on X, he emphasized the need for justice and support for the victims’ families.

“Spoke with HM Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and J&K PCC President Tariq Karra about the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. Received an update on the situation. The families of victims deserve justice and our fullest support,” he wrote.

Russian President Vladimir Putin termed the attack a ”brutal crime” and has expressed his heartfelt condolences, stating such acts have no justification and the culprits must face justice. He restated Russia’s commitment to boost cooperation with India in fighting terrorism.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also posted on X that he was ”deeply saddened” by the ”barbaric” attack. ”Israel stands with India, ” he added.

Global support pours in for India

Reactions poured in from several other nations. Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas both have condemned the violence and expressed empathy with the victims. The UAE has criticised the criminal attack and restated its objection to terrorism in all forms.

Germany’s Foreign Office echoed similar sentiments, calling it a ”brutal attack with no justification,” while Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reasserted its support for India and its obligation to maintain regional peace.

US Vice President JD Vance, who is currently on an India visit, also expressed his condolences, stating that he and his wife were ”overcome with the beauty” of India and deeply saddened by the violence.
