US President Donald Trump cut short his G7 visit as the Israel-Iran war entered its fifth day. A White House spokesperson said that Trump has directed the National Security Council (NSC) to be ready in the Situation Room upon his return from Canada. Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, has also departed from the G7 summit 2025 amid the rising hostilities.
During the summit, Trump posted to his social media platform about tensions in the Mideast, writing, “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Trump’s evacuation warning on Truth Social followed a warning from the Israeli defense forces. IDF issued a formal evacuation order to residents of Tehran, warning them of the imminent bombing of “military infrastructure”.
Iran-Israel War: Trump’s position
Trump, who wanted to have a nuclear deal with Iran, has been calling on Israel not to strike Iran. On June 15, he said, “I don’t want them going in, because I think it would”, referring to Israel’s attack and the impact it will have on the deal. He has time and again maintained that “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon”. Trump also said that one of the important things to put America first is to ensure that Iran doesn’t have a nuclear weapon.
He also emphasised his stand on the safety of US personnel deployed to protect the region. Israeli officials claimed that Trump knew about the attack beforehand, which had been in the works for over eight months, Axios reported. However, Trump revealed in a media interview that he had given Iran “a chance to make a deal” within 60 days.
Israel’s attempt to “eliminating” Iran’s nuclear capabilities is expected to last several weeks. Trump had warned Iran of the attacks coming signalling haste to strike a deal. He explicitly mentioned he knew of the attacks before hand which piled on pressure on the Iranian government. However, the US was quick to respond after the hostilities escalated that they have “nothing to do with the attack on Iran.”
As Iran puts on a defensive front against the Israeli forces, it responded hours after Israel killed three influential Iranian leaders.
What is a situation room?
The White House situation room is a dedicated crisis management centre built on orders of former President John F Kennedy. The high-stakes operations suite is run by more than 100 National Security Council staff. The secure and advanced communication helps the authorised members to monitor and deal with crises.
