The rescue team is looking for a helicopter that went missing in Russia’s Far East on Saturday. It is reported that the chopper had 22 people on board.
The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency said in a statement that although the Mi-8 helicopter took off near the Vachkazhets volcano in the Kamchatka region, it did not reach its destination as planned.
It further said that it thought there were three crew members and 19 passengers on board.
The Mi-8 is a two-engine helicopter designed in the 1960s. It is extensively used in many other countries, including Russia, where crashes have been common.
