Pope Francis, who has been suffering from double pneumonia for more than two weeks, had a stable and peaceful night, as per the statement released by the Vatican on Saturday. His condition continues to be under close medical observation as doctors are keeping a watch on his recovery.
Pope Francis Health status
In recent days, the 88-year-old pontiff has shown signs of improvement but on Friday, he experienced a health setback. The Vatican revealed that he experienced an ‘’isolated breathing crisis’’, in which non-invasive mechanical ventilation is required. Moreover, he also went through ‘’an episode of vomiting with inhalation and a sudden worsening of the respiratory condition, ‘’ that needed aspiration to remove his vomit from his airways, as reported by Reuters.
His medical team is carefully assessing the repercussion of this episode on his overall condition. The assessment for the same is likely to get over in the next 24 to 48 hours.
The Vatican has given assurance to the public that ‘’ the night passed peacefully, the pope is resting.’’ However, no additional information has been provided. A more detailed health update is expected to be released at 7 pm.
Health issues Pope is suffering from
The Pope was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 after having a severe respiratory infection leading to double pneumonia, an illness that resulted in major lung inflammation and difficulty in breathing. During his younger age, he had pleurisy, in which lungs lining got inflated and that resulted in removal of one of his lungs.
Over the last years, Pope has undergone multiple health challenges, including respiratory infections.
