US Vice President Kamala Harris has challenged Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to meet her on the debate stage, calling him out for “pulling out” of a previously agreed-upon debate in November.
Harris made the remarks while addressing a crowd in Georgia, saying Trump had earlier stated he would likely debate her in September but later backed out.
In a rally in Georgia, Kamala Harris shared a short video of her remarks on X, urging Donald Trump to meet her on the debate stage, saying,”Well, Donald, I do hope you’ll reconsider to meet me on the debate stage because as the saying goes, If you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.” Her statement was met with cheers from the crowd.
Harris pointed out the changing dynamics of the race, stating,”The momentum in this race is shifting and there are signs that Donald Trump is feeling it — you may have noticed.” According to The Hill, Harris’s visit to Atlanta aimed to build on the recent surge of enthusiasm reflected in increased fundraising and volunteer signups since she announced her intention to seek the Democratic presidential nomination. She emphasized the strategic importance of Georgia, a state President Joe Biden won in 2020 by fewer than 12,000 votes.
Highlighting Georgia’s crucial role in the presidential elections, Harris said, “The path to the White House runs right through this state and you all helped us win in 2020, and we’re going to do it again in 2024. Yes, we will.”
She further promised to get the bipartisan immigration legislation negotiated in the Senate signed into law if elected.
Harris confidently compared her record to Trump’s, stating, “In this campaign, I will proudly put my record against his any day of the week.” She recalled her tenure as attorney general of California, where she tackled transnational gangs, drug cartels, and human traffickers, successfully prosecuting them in numerous cases.
In contrast, she critiqued Trump’s approach to border security, saying, “Donald Trump on the other hand has been talking a big game about securing our border but he does not walk the walk or, as my friend Quavo would say, he does not walk it like he talks it,” referencing the rapper Quavo, who had addressed the crowd before her.
