Stepping up crackdown on the opposition party, Pakistan police on Monday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) information secretary Rauf Hasan. Cops raided the party’s central secretariat in Islamabad. Ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan is the founder of the party.

Initially, it was reported that the opposition party’s chairman Gohar Ali Khan was also arrested but the PTI spokesperson Zulfi Bokhari denied the report about Khan’s detention while confirming that Hasan had been arrested.

It was not known what are the charges against the information secretary. A few weeks ago, Hasan was also attacked by unknown persons.

Khan’s party also criticised the move through its official X account and lambasted the Islamabad cops.

“It’s absolutely shameful how Islamabad Police continues to completely mock and disregard every law in this country,” the party said.

Earlier, SSP Hassan Jahangir Wattoo led the raid as the cops surrounded the party’s headquarters in the federal capital.

The latest development comes just days after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s international media coordinator Ahmad Waqas Janjua was arrested on Friday.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PTI’s founder Khan recently talked about injustice and claimed that he is being caged like a “terrorist”. The former-cricketer-turned-politician said that he was not given basic prisoner and human rights in a “death cell” at a high-security prison.

Khan made these claims in a rare interview from inside the prison with British publication ‘The Sunday Times’, reported the Dawn newspaper on Sunday.
