The Bandra Family Court granted Yuzvendra Chahal and his estranged wife, Dhanashree Verma, a divorce on March 20. Their lawyer confirmed that the separation was finalised based on a joint petition filed by the couple with mutual consent, and the six-month cooling period in their case was waived at the couple’s request. While Chahal and Verma have remained silent on the reason behind their split, reports suggest that Mumbai played a major role in their separation.
Senior entertainment journalist Vickey Lalwani, citing a source close to the couple, revealed that Chahal and Verma “never truly got along” due to their contrasting personalities.
He further stated that Verma wished to relocate to Mumbai, while Chahal was not in favour of moving away from his parents – a key factor that reportedly contributed to their decision to part ways.
“After tying the knot, Yuzi and Dhanashree had shifted to stay with Yuzi’s parents in Haryana and came to Mumbai only when they needed to. Yes, this Mumbai-Haryana jhagda was one of the main reasons why this much-in-the-paparazzi-world marriage ended. Yuzi was clear that he wouldn’t uproot himself from his parents’ home and surroundings,” Vickey Lalwani wrote on Instagram.
On the day the court granted their divorce, Yuzvendra Chahal was seen wearing a T-shirt with the phrase “Be your own sugar daddy”. According to reports, Dhanashree Verma is set to receive Rs 4.75 crore in alimony as part of the divorce settlement.
Dhanashree released a song on the same day after the divorce, titled Dekha Ji Dekha Maine, which touches on themes of infidelity and domestic violence.
The couple had tied the knot in December 2020. They have been living separately since June 2022. Chahal and Dhanashree filed for divorce in February 2025 at the Bandra Family Court, alongside a request to waive the standard cooling-off period.
