American investor Codie Sanchez hailed India as an emerging ‘business powerhouse’ on Tuesday — outlining plans for a tour to the other country. The best-selling author also sought to correct past perceptions about the country and contended that it had remained “severely underestimated” over the years.
“Functioning democracy. Rule of law. Intellectual property rights. Entrepreneurial attitude. All ingredients for the next startup innovation hub,” she wrote on X.
Sanchez also noted the drastic ways in which India had changed — from being the “IT back office for the world” and a place with “copycat startups” in the past.
“Now, millions speak fluent English, (there are) tons of engineers with complex skills and billion-dollar native creative startups,” she added.
According to Data intelligence platform Tracxn, India currently has a 118 unicorn startups — ranking third globally when it comes the creation of companies valued at $1 billion or more. Bengaluru leads the list with 50 unicorns, while Gurugram follows with 18 such companies. Mumbai is ranked a close third with 17 unicorns.
