An Indian woman was caught shoplifting items worth Rs 1.11 lakh at Target in the US, a video of which is all over the Internet. The woman, as per the video, tries to leave the store after seven hours of shopping. She was then stopped at the security gate and taken to a back room where police officers arrested her.

‘It’ll be over 500 items’

The woman, in the now-viral video, tells cops that she hasn’t done anything and repeatedly requests them to let her go. She further told them that she is ready to pay.

The video, which is from May this year, opens to show a cop walking into a back room where a man hands her a document with all the information the Indian woman gave him.

“She has been in the store. We’ve been watching for at least 4 hours. She’s taken a ton of merchandise, different kinds,” says the man, before adding, “We’re getting a total right now for you. It’ll be over 500 for sure.”

The Indian woman intervenes, “It will be more.”

The man explains that she packed all the items into three reusable bags and kept getting closer to the exit door. She was eventually stopped by store security after she passed the first set of doors and all the checkout counters where she could have paid.

‘Why can’t I just pay for it?’

The woman repeatedly tells everyone in the room that she’ll pay for the stuff and pleads with them to let her go.

“Why can’t I just pay for it?” says the woman. To this, the cop tells her that the situation is “way past that” and that she has “committed a felony”.

The woman then asks, “But if I am paying for it, what’s the harm?”

‘Haven’t done anything’

When the cops checked for her ID and found nothing online, they asked her for her passport. To this, she said that she doesn’t have it with her right now and added that she doesn’t want to get into any trouble.

The Indian woman asks cops about what she should do right now, and she was told that she shouldn’t have been stealing stuff.

“I have not yet done anything…,” the woman repeatedly cries as the cops keep on telling her that either she hand her the passport here or at the police station.

The cop tells her again, “I need you to pull up your passport. I need to see valid identification for you. And then, you’ll be going back to the station with us,” adding that she made a lot of poor choices.

Tells the wrong name to the cops

The woman, possibly thinking she could avoid trouble by giving a false name, failed to reveal her real identity. According to her ID, her actual name is Jamisha, not Anya.

“I am really sorry to bother you if it is. I am not from this country. I am not going to stay here,” she further said. The woman police officer then asks, “Are you allowed to steal things in India? I did not think so.”

The video reveals that she took off the tags of 767 items and attempted to flee with all of them, as seen in CCTV video when she crossed the first exit of the store, where she was stopped.

She was later handcuffed and taken to the police station.
