A Lead Developer shortlisted a Gen Z candidate to fill a vacant position at his company. The candidate cleared the first round conducted by HR and was scheduled for a second-round interview with the manager. However, when HR reached out to schedule the interview, the candidate turned down the offer, claiming he was “1000 times a better developer” than the interviewer.
The man, who had shortlisted the candidate and was about to interview him, shared the incident online.
On Reddit’s IndiaSocial Community, he not only explained the situation but also posted a screenshot of the WhatsApp conversation between the HR and the candidate.
“So, I’m a Lead Developer in a remote company. I personally selected and scheduled an interview with this person last week, but at the same time, I genuinely met with an accident,” he wrote on Reddit.
The man added, “So, the first round was taken by HR, and I was planning to schedule an interview for tomorrow. I asked HR to find out at what time the candidate is available, and now I just see the reply he gave.”

The HR asks him: “Will you be available tomorrow for an interview?”
To this, the job applicant replies that he will let him know.
The interviewee then texts HR that they can schedule the interview the very same day, as per their “convenience”.
“Yes, lemme talk with the interviewer about it,” the HR replies.
The HR then reaches out to the Gen Z employee again, telling him that they have fixed the interview for the next day and that he will receive an interview link.
“Tomorrow, 7:30 pm. Apologies, he gave me the date but not the timings. I’ll share the interview link with you before noon tomorrow,” the message from HR read.
The Gen Z applicant, per the screenshot, got furious and said that he would not be moving forward with the company.
“Sir, I think I should maintain some professionalism, but unfortunately, I believe that I am 1000 times better developer than Mr Shah [the interviewee] and I am educated from one of the top institutes in India, no bluffs just see the cutoffs,” he said, before adding, “I will not me moving forward with your company anymore.”
How did Reddit react?
One Reddit user said, “Take a hug, Mr Shah. That’s gotta sting… Hope the kid learns some humility, the hard way.”
“The candidate first needs to work on his English before anything else. His message doesn’t make any sense, tbh,” said another.
One even reached out to him for an entry-level role. “Sir, can I get an entry-level job? Tech stack is front-end: HTML, CSS, JS, React. Need for a job. I was laid off during mass layoffs in my previous company and never got a chance to prove myself. I may not have that much experience, but I will give my best if given a chance.”
“Get proficient in MERN, and you will be selected afterwards,” the interviewer replied.
