Biotech entrepreneur-turned-longevity icon Bryan Johnson is famously known to have spent millions of dollars to reverse his biological age. Having became quite the anti-ageing influencer, he continues to spill recommendations and health lessons on social media.
Expanding his social media streak, Johnson recently weighed in on the long-contested hot debate on sugar. To eat sugar, or not to eat sugar, is exactly what the Internet has endlessly been obsessed with, and possibly will be till the end of time.
For those counting on Johnson’s word, here’s what he said: “Get off sugar for a week and you’ll realise you don’t want it.” Although the post remained brief, he added in his tweet, “Sleep well for a week and you’ll realise it’s the best performance enhancing drug on market.”
Bryan Johnson’s good sleep wisdom
For his latest words of wisdom, Bryan Johnson didn’t disseminate anything other-worldly or larger-than-life. He simply relied on the importance of good-old sleep.
As also established by the University of California – Davis Health, if one doesn’t sleep well, they may not eat well either. Food cravings and fatigue amplify in such a situation, and so health benefits of sleep evidently include heart health, weight management, reduction of injury risk, increased attention span and improved memory and learning.

Sleep well for a week and you’ll realize it’s the best performance enhancing drug on market.
“Not enough sleep or routinely getting broken sleep is linked with seven of the 15 leading causes of death in the US,” states UC Davis Health. These health risks in question include heart disease, cancerous tumours, brain-related diseases like stroke and brain aneurysms, accidents, sepsis, and high blood pressure.
Back in July, the longevity enthusiast shared his personal sleep routine on social media to reduce stress and improve sleep quality while addressing a study about weekly nightmares increasing risk of premature death.
Johnson’s sleep protocol suggests:
- Avoiding screens an hour before bed
- Calming your nervous system by either journaling, reading, meditating, breathwork, or spending quality time with family or friends
- Avoiding food and heavy workout four hours before sleeping
- Cutting out caffeine six hours before bed
- Sticking to one bedtime
- Staying away from emotionally trying conversations or arguments after 5 pm

Before ‘get off sugar,’ Bryan Johnson joined the win vs diet coke debate
Just days ago, the anti-ageing enthusiast immersed himself in another age-old debate: wine vs diet coke.
“Diet Coke contains artificial sweeteners like aspartame or sucralose, which may disrupt the gut microbiome and insulin sensitivity,” he said at the time. As for his take on wine, he noted that since it has alcohol it raises cancer fears.
“Wine averages 12-14% alcohol. Alcohol is a Class 1 carcinogen (it can cause cancer in humans), the same category as asbestos and tobacco,” he wrote, adding, “Even 1 drink a day raises the risk of breast, oesophageal, and colorectal cancer. Alcohol also shrinks brain volume over time.”
