Following the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on Saturday, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal told Indian Express that efforts are underway to resume the suspended Indian Premier League’s season “immediately”. The tournament had been abruptly halted on Friday due to escalating border tensions.

When will IPL 2025 resume?

“The ceasefire has just been announced. We are now exploring whether it’s possible to conduct the remaining IPL matches immediately,” Dhumal said. He added that the board would be speaking with team owners, broadcasters, and other key stakeholders, while also seeking the central government’s clearance before moving forward.

Franchises have already been asked to stay ready, and players have been told they may need to travel at short notice. The BCCI is reportedly working on how quickly players who returned home after the suspension can be brought back.

The tournament was halted on Friday amid escalating border tensions, with only 12 matches left in the schedule. So far, 58 matches have been played.

The board had earlier shortlisted Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad as potential venues for the remaining fixtures. A final decision will depend on logistical planning and government consultation.

Just a day before the suspension, the IPL fixture between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium was cancelled after floodlights went out. Dhumal had said the decision was precautionary, citing security concerns.

Now, with a ceasefire in place, the BCCI is looking at a possible 14-day window to conclude the season, provided all parties come on board quickly.
