Moments after news trickled in about her disqualification, Vinesh Phogat was reportedly hospitalised in Paris after she fainted due to dehydration on Wednesday, according to media reports.
Currently, Vinesh is in the polyclinic of the Olympic Village, where she is stable and resting, India Today reported.
Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics after she was found overweight ahead of the final match of freestyle wrestler 50 kg category. Sources told The Indian Express that the wrestler was roughly 100 grams over the permissible limits, which led to her disqualification.

The wrestler reportedly tried to do all she could to come under the desired weight, be it skipping meals, or running, according to an IE report. She did not sleep the entire night, hoping to fall under the weight category.
Confirming her disqualification, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said in a statement, “It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with IOA President PT Usha to get firsthand information on the issue and explore any options available to India following the setback for Vinesh. According to UWW rules, “If an athlete does not attend or fails the weigh-in, he/she will be eliminated from the competition and ranked last without rank.”
