Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have made a replacement signing for IPL 2026. The South African speedster Gerald Coetzee for Rs 2 Crore. The 25-year-old joins the Orange Army as an injury replacement for left-arm seamer David Payne, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a persistent ankle injury.

The Rs 2 crore reinforcement: Why Coetzee?

Coetzee, who surprisingly went unsold in the 2026 auction, brings significant IPL pedigree to Hyderabad. Having previously represented Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, Coetzee has a track record of 15 wickets in 14 matches.

With SRH currently locked in a mid-table battle (5th on the points table), the acquisition of a hit-the-deck bowler like Coetzee is a strategic attempt to bolster their death-bowling. While David Payne managed 2 wickets in his 2 appearances this season, Coetzee’s pace will add a different dimension to their attack.

Pat Cummins returns: The Captain is back

In another major boost for the franchise’s regular skipper Pat Cummins officially joined the squad on Friday, April 17.

Availability: Cummins is expected to lead the side in the April 25 clash against Rajasthan Royals. He is unlikely to play their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) later this evening (April 18).

Impact: His return stabilises the SRH bowling hierarchy, which has been under pressure during his absence. provides a different dimension to the SRH attack.

While Coetzee settles in and Cummins prepares for his comeback, SRH face a stern test. They will be up against a Chennai side who have won two matches in a row after losing the first three matches. Hyderabad too have 4 points after 5 matches and if that is anything to go by, this could shape out to be a humdinger of a clash.
