Ankita Bhakat propelled India to the women’s quarter-finals at the Paris Games 2024, achieving her season-best score of 666 points and securing the 11th spot in the archery rankings on Thursday. Her teammates, Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari, finished 22nd and 23rd respectively. Meanwhile, Korea’s Sihyeon Lim set a new world record with a score of 694.

Although the opening ceremony is tomorrow (July 26), the Indian archers have already commenced their campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The women’s event has set the stage, and today (July 25), the men’s individual ranking round will take place.

This early start is crucial as the archers aim to secure favourable seeding positions, which can significantly impact their chances of progressing through the knockout stages. The team is determined to build on their momentum and deliver strong performances, setting a positive tone for the rest of the competition.

All six Indian archers are striving for favourable seeding. This marks the first time since London 2012 that India has secured all six quota places in archery, with hopes of finally winning an Olympic medal in the sport.
