The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a big jump in both its business and brand value this year, according to a new report by investment bank Houlihan Lokey. The League’s business value grew by 13% to $18.5 billion (about Rs 1.6 lakh crore), while its overall brand value rose 14% to nearly $4 billion (around Rs 33,000 crore).

RCB overtakes CSK, MI

As per the report, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has become the most valuable franchise for the first time. After winning their first-ever IPL title, RCB’s brand value shot up to $269 million, overtaking long-time leaders Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

What powered RCB’s growth?

The report states that RCB’s growth was powered by strong performances on the field, a loyal fan base, and smart branding efforts. The team benefited from star players, new captain Rajat Patidar, and tie-ups with tech brands like Nothing. Local outreach in Karnataka and high digital engagement also boosted their popularity.

Mumbai Indians now rank second with a brand value of $242 million, followed by CSK at $235 million, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at $227 million. Despite a poor season, CSK’s fan loyalty and MS Dhoni’s continued presence keep its brand strong.

The report said the IPL is now more than just a sports league, it’s a global entertainment brand. With strong media deals, fixed team budgets, and rising ad revenues (estimated at $600 million in 2025), the IPL outperforms even major leagues like the English Premier League and the NBA in profitability.

The IPL is also drawing growing interest from global investors, who now see its teams as high-growth business opportunities. According to the report, RCB’s 2025 title win marks a new era in the league’s power dynamics.
