Lionel Messi carved yet another milestone in Major League Soccer on Wednesday, becoming the first player since the league’s inception in 1996 to score multiple goals in four consecutive matches. His double strike, a clinical half-volley and a first-touch finish, powered Inter Miami to a 2‑1 victory over the New England Revolution in Foxborough.
Inter Miami vs New England
Inter Miami (10-3-5), with four straight wins, remains unbeaten in its last five outings, riding the wave of Messi’s exceptional form. The Argentine star opened the scoring in the 27th minute after New England defender Tanner Beason misjudged a header. Pouncing on the mistake, Messi finished clinically with a half-volley that left the home crowd stunned.

Barely ten minutes later, Messi doubled Miami’s lead. Midfielder Sergio Busquets, delivering a reminder of their Barcelona connection, lofted a perfectly weighted ball from just beyond midfield. Messi raced onto it, striking first-time from the edge of the penalty area, the ball nestling inside the right post to make it 2-0.
Messi’s defensive play
Messi has now scored at least once in five consecutive games and has amassed 14 goals and seven assists in just 15 MLS appearances this season. He trails only Nashville’s Sam Surridge, who leads the league with 16 goals.
Goalkeeper Óscar Ustari also played a key role in Miami’s victory, making five important saves to keep New England at bay. The Revolution (6-8-6), who are winless in their last five matches, managed to pull one back in the 79th minute when Carles Gil found the net. However, it proved too late to change the outcome.
As Messi’s influence on MLS continues to grow, fans and analysts alike are left to wonder just how many more records he might shatter before the season ends. For now, Inter Miami remains firmly in the playoff hunt, and Messi’s brilliance is leading the charge.
