Paying the ultimate price for the team’s dismal performance in the ongoing Premier League, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been sacked.

The defending EPL champions decided to part ways with the 52-year-old Portuguese who was in his second spell at the club after taking charge in June 2013.

Mourinho, who was the eighth manager to be dismissed by the Chelsea owner, became the latest casualty of the Roman Abramovich era, the Guardian reported.

Chelsea, who had finished eight points clear last season and won the League Cup, had failed to part ways with their miserable season as they crashed to their ninth defeat in 16 league games with a 2-1 loss to leaders Leicester City.

The Chelsea owner had desperately wanted Mourinho to build upon last season’s title triumph but so bad has this season been that he knew he needed to act.

Chelsea will now lock horns with Sunderland on December 19.
