With the Indian Premier League season kicking in, players have started to save themselves for IPL matches. While players are increasingly favoring the Indian Premier League (IPL) over red-ball cricket, the BCCI contemplating a plan to boost Test match fees, underscoring the importance of the longer format.

The board has reportedly opted to consider a revision in the salary structure following wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan’s decision to disregard team management’s requests to participate in domestic cricket, opting instead to focus on preparations for the upcoming IPL.

According to an Indian Express report, a source within the Board elaborated on the new remuneration model and stated, “For instance, if a player participates in all Test series within a calendar year, they would receive additional rewards on top of their annual retainer contract. This initiative aims to incentivize players to prioritize red-ball cricket, offering an extra perk for their involvement in Test matches.”

According to the board, this initiative will encourage players to focus on Test cricket by providing an extra reward for participating in Test matches.

Upon approval, the new remuneration model is slated for implementation post this IPL season. The BCCI is crafting the details of an additional bonus for players participating in all Test series within a season. The BCCI disburses Rs 15 lakh per Test match, Rs 6 lakh per ODI, and Rs 3 lakh for T20 internationals.

The BCCI announced the initial phase of the IPL 2024 schedule which spans from March 22 to April 7, 2024. This phase will feature 21 matches played across 10 cities among the 10 Indian teams.

The second phase of the remaining matches will be disclosed after announcing the Lok Sabha election dates in the country.

It has also been announced that the IPL match scheduled for March 23 in Punjab will be played at the newly constructed Mullanpur stadium. This will be the first time for Mullanpur to host an IPL match.
