Sunrisers Hyderabad, who kicked off the season with a record-breaking total and a strong opening performance, now find themselves in a steadily declining position. With just 2 wins out of 8 games, their campaign has taken a sharp downturn, placing them at the bottom of the points table. In their latest outing—the 41st match of IPL 2025—they suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Mumbai Indians, marking their sixth loss of the season and adding to a growing string of disappointments.

Speaking at the post-match press conference following Sunrisers Hyderabad’s heavy defeat to Mumbai Indians—their sixth loss of the season—head coach Daniel Vettori admitted that the team’s strategy to maximize the powerplay backfired, and that a misjudgment of the Wankhede Stadium conditions led to an under-par total of 143/8, which Mumbai chased down with ease in just 15.4 overs, losing only three wickets.

“We assessed the pitch as slower than it actually was,” Vettori said. “We expected it to grip more, which is why we went with a cautious approach up front. Unfortunately, that set us back, and we couldn’t recover with the bat.”

The loss marks SRH’s second straight defeat to Mumbai this season and leaves them stuck at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, with only 2 wins in 8 games. What started as a promising campaign with a record-breaking total in their season opener has now spiraled into a string of disappointing performances.

Vettori acknowledged the growing pressure on the squad and emphasized the need for sharper decision-making going forward. “There’s no lack of effort from the players,” he noted, “but in a tournament this competitive, the small decisions around reading conditions and choosing the right strategy make all the difference.”

The next clash for Sunrisers Hyderabad is against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 25.
