Star West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran, representing Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025, achieved a remarkable milestone on Monday (March 24). During the IPL clash between LSG and Delhi Capitals at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Pooran became only the fourth batter in the world to smash 600 or more sixes in T20 cricket.
Pooran needed just one six to enter the elite club, and he reached the landmark in style by hammering Vipraj Nigam for a maximum on the third delivery of the seventh over. With this feat, he joins an exclusive list led by legendary Chris Gayle.
Most Sixes in T20s
- Chris Gayle – 1056
- Kieron Pollard – 908
- Andre Russell – 733
- Nicholas Pooran – 600*
- Alex Hales – 552
Gayle remains the undisputed leader in T20 cricket’s six-hitting charts, having smashed 1056 sixes in 463 matches. He is followed by fellow West Indies power-hitters Kieron Pollard (908 sixes in 695 matches) and Andre Russell (733 sixes in 539 matches). Pooran now sits fourth, surpassing several top international stars.
The 28-year-old left-hander has played 385 T20 matches, with 65 of his sixes coming in just 30 IPL games for LSG. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, he was retained by the Lucknow-based franchise for a whopping Rs 21 crore.
Against Delhi Capitals, Pooran played a crucial knock at No. 3 for LSG. By the end of 11 overs, he was batting on 41 off 20 balls, having smashed four fours and three sixes. His partnership with Mitchell Marsh proved instrumental, as the duo added 79 runs off just 38 balls for the second wicket. Marsh, the Australian T20I captain, was also in destructive form, scoring 65 off 33 balls with six fours and five sixes.
India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma remains the highest-ranked Indian batter on the six-hitting charts, with 525 sixes in 449 T20 appearances.
Pooran’s feat further cements his reputation as one of the most explosive hitters in the modern game, and with the IPL season in full swing, he is poised to add many more to his tally.
