Tuhin Kanta Pandey, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official, has been appointed as the Finance Secretary by the government of India.
With this appointment, Pandey takes over for TV Somanathan, who was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary in August, succeeding Rajiv Gauba.
Prior to this, Pandey was the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management’s (DIPAM) secretary. In October 2019, he took charge of DIPAM. Pandey is an IAS officer from the Odisha cadre of 1987-batch.
The appointments committee of the Cabinet has approved designating Pandey as the finance secretary, the order issued by the personnel ministry said. As per the convention, the senior-most secretary in the Union finance ministry is designated as the finance secretary.
