Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the shrine of Kedarnath ahead of its closure for the next six months. This was PM Modi's second visit to Kedarnath where he also addressed a public meeting near the temple. Earlier on May 3, the Prime Minister had offered prayers and performed a ‘rudrabhishek’ in the sanctum of the centuries old shrine. According to reports, nearby areas of the temple were destroyed in 2013 after the Chorabari Glacier lake breached following heavy rainfall that caused flash floods in the river Mandakini. PM Modi was welcomed by Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and other officials at the airport before he headed for the Himalayan shrine.
