Instant messaging app Hike addresses the uniquely ‘desi’ needs of its users. Hike has over 35 mn users last year. But there is more to Hike than just texting, Here is a peek at more:
-
Big File Transfers: This feature from Hike allows users to share files in any format – ZIP, MP3, MP4, docs, ppts and much more up to a 100 MB each file. This surpasses the limit of most popular mail clients.
-
Voice Calling: The latest addition to the hike features was the VoIP calling over 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi across 200 countries. These calls are optimized to consume very little data, giving its users more calling minutes per MB of data. Because, somethings are best said in your voice, right?
-
Localized Stickers: Another popular feature of hike is its localized stickers. India being a diverse country has many people who have started using the mobile-internet for the first-time and hence, there comes a huge language-input barrier. Hike’s localized stickers not only help people make conversations more expressive, but also cut across language and cultural barriers.
-
Offline messaging: Hike let’s its users message even those friends who don’t have a smartphone or an active internet connection. This feature is very powerful in a market like India, where people turn off their data to save costs or battery or are just in a bad network area.
-
Hidden Mode: Talking of cultural differences, in India, it is rather common for people to share phones or browse through one another’s phones, messages and pictures. We understand that messaging is a very personal affair, be it with your best friend or special friend. Basis this insight, we built Hidden Mode in hike that lets you hide your private chats and access them only with the right passcode. This ensures our users feel safe when having their private conversations on hike.
-
500 people group chats: We’ve also noticed that in India we love to talk to a lot of people at once; we’re highly social that way. We recently announced the launch of Group Chats with up to 500 members in one group wherein you can send messages share rich media and much more.
-
Favorites (Last Seen): Hike gives its users complete control on the Last seen, Online status and Status Update settings, so that they can choose to share desired information with their Favourite contacts.
