2. Once they have done that, students should not let pressure from families, friends and colleagues affect their choice and instead base their future careers on their own aptitude and interest. It should not be that 1 or 2 years down the line, they decide they are not suited for this course of study. This will result in a lot of wastage of time, effort, money and most of all cause a lot of needless stress, anger and worse, all of which could have been avoided in the first place. 3. Do not set targets in terms of institutions. For example you want to study in Delhi University and that too in Hindu College, or St Stephen’s. Or, Indian Institute of Technology and that too in Delhi. Instead, focus on the course of study, which is the best faculty, what kind of resources are available and what kind of options does a particular institution offer after you have completed your studies. 4. Next step is to focus on what will you do after you have completed your studies at these institutions. Do you want to pursue post graduation study and also prepare for competitive examinations. Or do you want a basic degree and then jump into a career. Also, think of what kind of career do you want to pursue. Or whether you want to try out a number of career options by experimenting with jobs in various areas – nowadays you can jump on the modern retail bandwagon, media, sports administration and many more – the alternatives are endless. Students should remember that while most institutions, private or public, will accept self-attested copies (originals to be submitted or shown on request), there are others that demand attestations by a gazetted officer.
