Snapping its two-day fall, the BSE Sensex today recovered over 29 points in highly volatile trade as investors targeted bluechips ahead of monthly derivatives expiry and the Union Budget on Saturday. The Sensex bounced back to close higher by 29.55 points, or 0.10 per cent, at 29,004.66. Intra-day, it touched a high of 29,130.67.

The 50-share Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also recovered by 7.15 points, or 0.08 per cent, to close at 8,762.10 after shuttling between 8,800.50 and 8,726.75. The rupee resumed higher at 62.25 per dollar as against the last close of 62.31 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market. It firmed up further to close at 62.20 per dollar, showing a rise of 11 paise or 0.18 per cent.

Falling for the fourth day, gold prices dipped below the Rs 27,000-mark by losing another Rs 100 to trade at a 10-week low of Rs 26,970 per ten gram at the bullion market today owing to sluggish demand from jewellery makers amid a weakening global trend. Silver, however, recovered by Rs 50 to Rs 36,800 per kg on scattered buying by industrial units and coin makers.
