With the counting of votes on Tuesday, India’s second-longest election, after the 1951–52 Indian General Poll, is finally coming to its conclusion.
Lasting for 44 days, this was the largest-ever election in history, surpassing the previous poll. During these days, the country witnessed a politically charged environment.
The incumbent prime minister Narendra Modi (who completed a second term) is running for a third straight term. From the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, he defeated Congress’ Ajay Rai by over 1.52 lakh votes.
Whereas on the one hand, the NDA alliance emerged on top, on the other hand, the INDIA alliance also staged a stellar comeback.
The Lok Sabha Election 2024 was held from 19 April to 1 June in seven phases. The polls were held for 543 seats. 272 is needed for the majority.
