The Beas station is renowned internationally for being the seat and nerve center of 'Radha Soami Satsang Beas' (RSSB). "The cleanliness of the railway station is a combined effort of Radha Soami Satsang's volunteers and the Indian Railways," Kultar Singh, the Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway tells FE Online. "Divisional Railway Authorities and volunteers work in complete sync to maintain the high standards of cleanliness at station," he says. (Image by Northern Railway)

Says Kultar Singh, "The station is cleaned at least three times a day. And, while people expect railway stations to be dirtier during the evening time, in case of the Beas railway station, efforts are made to keep it spic and span all the time." (Image by Northern Railway)

According to Indian Railways, on any normal day, 100 volunteers of the Radha Soami Satsang take part in the cleanliness of the station. "See, the footfall on the station on a normal Sunday is around 50,000. But in summer months, on the days of the Satsang, the footfall can go up to 5 lakh as well. On such days a huge number of Radha Soami Satsang's volunteers work along with Railway authorities to keep the station clean," says Kultar Singh. (Image by Northern Railway)

Asked about how the tracks are kept clean, Singh says that both mechanised and manual efforts contribute. "As far as the station goes, I would also like to add that the fact the station is so well maintained compels people to not litter or spit around. It's a habit that has been inculcated," he says.
