The Indian stock markets rode high on the new year. The Sensex has risen by 368 points, or 0.47%, closing at 78,507.13, while the Nifty advanced 98 points, or 0.41%, ending at 23,742.90.

The Nifty Bank index also ended the day in the green, closing the very first session of 2025 at 51,060.60, up by 200 points or 0.39%.

Sensex Top Gainers

Among the 30 stocks on the Sensex pack, Maruti Suzuki led the pack, surging by 3.3%, followed by M&M with a 2.45% increase, and Bajaj Finance, up by 1.6%. L&T and Tata Motors followed the top 5 gainers list, ending the day in green, up by 1.6% and 1.1%, respectively.

Sensex Top Losers

The top 5 laggards on the Sensex 30 pack included Tata Steel, shedding by 0.98%, followed by Adani Ports, declining 0.8%. Zomato fell by 0.5%, HCL Technologies was down 0.28% and SBI, decreased by 0.20%. 

Nifty 50 Top Gainers

The top gainers on the Nifty included Maruti Suzuki, which surged by 3%, followed by M&M, up by 2.36%. L&T saw a surge of 1.73%. Furthermore, in the top 5 gainers Bajaj Finance and Tata Motors posted a gain of 1.7% and 1.3%, respectively.

Nifty 50 Top Losers

On the other side, the top losers on the Nifty 50 were led by Hindalco, declining by 1.4%. The top 5 laggards list is followed closely by Dr Reddy and Adani Ports, decreasing by 1.12% and 1%, respectively. ONGC fell by 0.98% and Tata Steel dropped by 0.8%, closing the day on a red note.

Nifty Midcap 50 gainers

In the Nifty Midcap 50 today, the top five gainers included Suzlon (5), Muthoot Finance (3.3), Voltas (2.24), AU Small Finance Bank (1.95), and KPIT Technologies (1.94).

Nifty Midcap 50 Losers

On the flip side, the top losers in the Nifty Midcap 50 included Phoenix, Cummins India, Oracle Financial Services, Oberoi Realty, SRF, Sundaram Finance and so on.
