The Indian equity market closed lower on Friday. The Sensex settled at 82,626.23, down 0.47%, while the Nifty ended at 25,327.05, slipping 0.38%. The Nifty Bank also faced selling pressure and closed the day at 55,458.85, down 0.48%.

Top gainers
A few heavyweights managed to buck the trend. Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, SBI, NTPC, and Maruti were among the standout gainers from the Sensex 30 pack.
Key losers
On the flip side, IT and financial stocks weighed on the benchmarks. HCL Tech, Titan, M&M, ICICI Bank, and Trent were the major laggards of the day, dragging the indices deeper into the red.
Midday Movers
Mid-session action was largely dominated by Adani Group stocks. Adani Enterprises surged 5%, emerging as the top Nifty gainer, while Adani Power spiked 13% to hit an intra-day high of Rs 716.50 in the intraday trading session.
Vodafone Idea also saw a sharp rally after the Supreme Court deferred hearing on its AGR dues plea to September 26. Meanwhile, Kaynes Technology faced selling pressure, dropping more than 6% intraday after CEO Rajesh Sharma announced his resignation.
Top sectors in Friday trade
The power sector saw the sharpest move, rising 2.65% in today’s trade. Rubber stocks followed with a 1.54% gain, while infrastructure counters were up 1.39%. The telecommunications space also edged higher, registering a 1.2% increase.
Best and worst performing business group
Adani Group stocks led the move with a 5.05% rise in market capitalization, followed by Essar Group at 4.63% and Adventz Group at 3.86%. Dhanuka Group also gained 3.05%. On the other hand, HCL Group slipped 1.62%, Raheja Group declined 2.21%, and Emami Group saw the steepest drop of 3.47%.
