Indian equities ended the day on a positive note, with both benchmark indices gaining ground. The Sensex settled at 81,207.17, higher by 0.28%, while the Nifty closed at 24,894.25, up by 0.23%. The Nifty Bank also added to the momentum, finishing at 55,589.25, up by 0.44%.

Tata Steel, Power Grid, Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, L&T, and Bharat Electronics were among the key performers in today’s trade.

On the other side, selling pressure was visible in select heavyweights. Maruti, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank, and Reliance Industries featured among the top laggards.
Top sectors in today’s trade
Beyond individual stocks, certain sectors stood out with notable moves. The glass sector was the star performer, posting a surge of nearly 4% in market cap. Gems and jewellery stocks advanced by 2.07%, aquaculture gained close to 2%, while metals (non-ferrous) and defence also saw strong traction, rising 1.89% and 1.84% respectively.
Best and worst performing business group
Essar Group gained 4.94%, Jaypee Group was up 4.47%, Ruchi Group advanced 3.55%, and Arvind Mafatlal Group added 3.42%. On the other hand, Indiabulls Group slipped 1.75%, while Max India Group fell 2.57%.
