Introducing SD Shibulal, one of the co-founders of Infosys, a company with a staggering valuation of Rs 632,030 crore. Having served as the CEO of the IT giant until 2014, Shibulal continues to maintain a small stake in the company. Beyond his contributions to the tech industry, he has ventured into real estate, achieving notable success.
Shibulal’s real estate portfolio includes ownership of over 700 apartments in Seattle, USA, valued at approximately Rs 600 crore during that period, Economic Times reported. These properties were held under Shibulal’s family office, Innovations Investment Management, and he also made significant investments in European real estate.
Additionally, he co-manages The Tamara, a boutique resort chain, alongside his daughter Shruti. Furthermore, Shibulal co-founded Axilor Ventures, an incubator firm, with fellow Infosys co-founder Senapathy Gopalakrishnan.
Born in Alappuzha, Kerala, Shibulal, the only child of an Ayurvedic practitioner father and a government employee mother, pursued his education in Kerala and earned a Master’s degree from the University of Kerala. Later, he pursued a second Master’s degree from Boston University in the United States.
Commencing his career as a software engineer in 1979, Shibulal played a pivotal role in co-founding Infosys in 1989, alongside NR Narayana Murthy and others. Though he took a sabbatical from the company in 1991, he returned in 1996 after establishing the first e-commerce app for Sun Microsystems in the US.
Notably, Shibulal was the last co-founder to lead Infosys as CEO before Vishal Sikka assumed the role. Despite stepping down, Shibulal still possesses a substantial net worth exceeding Rs 14,800 crore, contributing to the enduring success of Infosys, currently valued at Rs 632,030 crore.
