Chinese manufacturing firm, OnePlus launched its new flagship smartphone OnePlus 5T on Thursday night at a mega event in New York. The company has pitched OnePuls 5T as an upgrade over OnePlus 5, which was launched earlier this year. OnePlus 5T comes in 18:9 aspect screen ratio, plenty of power, Face Unlock feature and improved cameras among other things. The 6GB, 64GB variant will be priced at Rs 32,999 in India while the 8GB, 128GB variant of this device will cost Rs 37,999. That makes the OnePlus 5T one of the cheapest high-end phones you can buy in the market, when compared to the likes of Samsung and Apple. Here is everything that is new in this smartphone as compared to OnePlus 5:

Cameras and facial recognition

The most notable upgrade has been made to the camera. OnePlus 5T will feature the same dual-camera setup, featuring a 16MP sensor while the secondary rear camera is a 20MP one. But, the company claims that it has improved the secondary camera with a large f/1.7 aperture for superior ‘low light photography’. It is also expected to improve the quality of portrait images. Apart from the fingerprint scanner, OnePlus 5T will also allow the users to unlock the phone through Facial recognition. While it may sound cool, it remains to be seen how well it works in the real world.

Software

Just like OnePlus 5, the new variant also runs on OxygenOS which is based on Android 7.1 Nougat. Both the smartphones will get a stable version of Android Oreo in early 2018. The UI is easy to navigate, and there’s barely any bloatware and the apps that are pre-installed on the device. As such, there isn’t a huge difference on the OS front.

Hardware

It is almost impossible to find better specifications in this price range. OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 feature a Snapdragon 835 processor and the Adreno 540 GPU coupled with either 6GB or 8GB RAM. OnePlus 5 is already very fast and gives users a smooth experience so there should not be a huge improvement in that aspect. You can choose between a 64GB and 128GB variant but choose it accordingly as there’s no expandable storage on the device.

Appearance

Both the phones come with a metal back, curved back for better grip, and a similar physical size. There’s a headphone jack and a Dash Charge-powered USB-C port on the bottom, along with a mono speaker, plus a dual- SIM tray on the right side next to the volume rocker. The only major difference here is that the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the back in OnePlus 5T. Both phones rock a 3300mAh battery which should probably last a day on a single charge.
