Redmi A3, the new entry-level smartphone from the house of Xiaomi, has officially launched in India today. It maybe a budget phone, but it doesn’t quite look like it. Rather, it looks way more premium than what its price tag will have you believe. The spec-sheet, too, is good enough especially for a phone that costs less than Rs 7,500.

Successor to the Redmi A2, the Redmi A3 introduces a brand-new “halo” design with a rounded camera assembly somewhat reminiscent of Xiaomi’s pricier ultra flagship phones. You can get it in a choice of three colours — olive green, midnight black, and lake blue. Xiaomi says the last two are made of glass while the first uses fake leather. The plus model has probably been retired with the Redmi A3 getting a fingerprint scanner of its own (which was the only measurable difference between the Redmi A2 and Redmi A2 Plus).
Flip over to the front and you’ll find a tall 6.71-inch display (presumably IPS LCD) with a 720p resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, Xiaomi says. Under the hood, the Redmi A3 has the MediaTek Helio G36 processor paired with up to 6GB of RAM. Storage can go up to 128GB. It is expandable with a dedicated microSD card slot (by up to 1TB). Powering the phone is a 5,000mAh battery with USB Type-C charging though it is limited to 10W.
For photography, the Redmi A3 has an 8-megapixel rear and another 5-megapixel camera on the front. Running the show is Android 13 Go edition.

The Redmi A3 comes in 3GB/64GB, 4GB/128GB, and 6GB/128GB trims for Rs 7,299, Rs 8,299, and Rs 9,299, respectively. General availability is pegged for February 23 across Flipkart, Mi.com, Mi Home stores and retail stores.
