Realme has announced the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G, a soon-to-launch smartphone you will seemingly be able to control through gestures without coming into physical contact with it. Realme calls them “air gestures” and the feature will essentially allow users to navigate through certain aspects of the smartphone without touching it.

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G will support a “diverse range of over ten gesture types,” Realme says, designed to “comprehensively simulate Android screen operations.” The company bills the feature for all the instances when it’s inconvenient to physically touch your smartphone like for instance when your hands are wet or when you’re having a meal.

Realme says gesture controls will be available in third-party apps as well especially in “video-related scenarios” wherein you can use your thumb to like a video or use an “OK” gesture to add a video to your favourites.

The China-exclusive Realme GT 5 Pro supports supports twelve air gestures in addition to a palm unlock feature that lets users unlock the phone by simply opening their palm and bringing it close to the screen. It isn’t immediately clear if the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G builds on that tech or if Realme has cooked up something different for the India market.

As for hardware, the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G is confirmed to get a design on similar lines as the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 series phones. It will have a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 main camera sensor and what appears to be a 2.5D curved screen with a centrally aligned hole punch cut-out. An even bigger deal will be the software. Realme claims that the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G will have 65 percent less pre-installed apps, though it doesn’t say, compared to what phone (self-made or competition).

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G will be launched sometime in March, possibly right after the launch of Realme 12 series 5G on March 6. Watch this space for more updates.
