OpenAI is finally extending the access to Canvas to all users. Notably, Canvas is its side-by-side digital editing space. ChatGPT with Canvas has also added some new features.
On December 11, in a livestream video, the company announced during the fourth day of its “12 Days of OpenAI”-holiday themed announcements. Here’s what the new update brings to you.
ChatGPT Canvas available for all
As mentioned in the announcement, Canvas will be integrated into GPT-4o. Now, you don’t need to toggle to GPT 4o with Canvas on the model picker. Canvas will now automatically open for some prompts/pasted text. The update will be available only on the Windows app and any web version of ChatGPT. Initially Canvas was announced in October and was only available to ChatGPT Teams, Plus, Edu and Enterprise subscribers. Now as the AI company expands its availability, it will be available for non-paid users also.
OpenAI also updated Canvas and now it can run Python code, support more text pasting, and can be launched in custom GPTs. This means that now you can paste Python code to ChatGPT which may automatically open Canvas. The old version didn’t let you see if the code just generated/ edited works or not. You could only copy the code again and run it in your own systems.
Furthermore, OpenAI also showed a demo showcasing the capabilities of Canvas. It showed that now you can also create and preview graphics from code. Now developers and analysts can adjust the formulas and data before executing them finally. Also you get a list of shortcuts for asking ChatGPT to edit as per your choice. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to debug your code, adjust writing length and quickly perform other useful actions.
Understanding ChatGPT Canvas
So, what is Chat GPT Canvas and how does it help you? With Canvas, ChatGPT can understand the context of what you’re trying to accomplish in a better way. You can mark specific sections to direct ChatGPT the part it should focus on. Imagine it as an editor or maybe a code reviewer, who can give you inline feedback and suggestions with the entire project in mind.
